Spelling Bee(r)
is an entertaining and challenging game where participants are put on the spot to spell words correctly for a free beer.
Sign-ups will begin 30 minutes prior to the start
time.
Participants pay $5 to enter the Bee(r) and are assigned
a number.
Individuals will be called numerically to spell one
word per round.
When a contestant spells
a word correctly they will receive a ticket for a free beer at the bar. This ticket must be redeemed the night of the Bee(r).
No exceptions. This means you.
Contestants
may ask for a definition of the word and/or the word in a sentence.
Any mistakes that may require “whiteout,” “erasing,” or “backspacing” while spelling
a word will be decided by Ye Olde “Yay or Nay” vote (so bring your friends).
Spell-off will be decided when 5 or less people remain. At this point in time
beer tickets will no longer be given for a correctly spelled word. During the spell-off, when one speller misspells a word,
the next speller shall be given an opportunity to spell that same word. If the next speller spells that word correctly,
play continues and the misspell is eliminated. When two participants remain, the spell-off will proceed as said above
but the correct speller must spell an additional word to be declared the winner of the Bee(r).
Prizes will be awarded for the top two people at the end of the contest.
Lightning rounds: these rounds are quick and to
the point. A contestant has 30 seconds to spell the given word correctly before they are eliminated. These rounds will be
announced before the round begins and only used when necessary.
All
contestants must be 21+ to participate in the Spelling Bee(r).
